The Last Straw Distillery story is about family and friends coming together to bring a crazy idea to life.
Back in 2011, Don had the idea of starting a micro-distillery. Always up for an adventure, Ana jumped on board. Realizing the red-tape nightmare ahead of them in opening a distillery in Ontario, they knew a team was necessary to get this project off the ground. Knowing Mike's love of whisky and entrepreneurial spirit, he was the natural choice to join the team. That's when the real fun - and hard work - began. Experimenting, studying and McGyvering. Each setback became a lesson. The team has grown, with Brandon, Shawn and Fred adding their talent and energy to the team. We have a new facility and bottle shop. And we've honed our distilling processes with upgraded equipment and more experience.
It's not just about re-creating recipes from the past. Just as the public is demanding more sophisticated Ontario wines and beers, so too is it demanding better, more unique and interesting locally made spirits. We have something different to offer. We have developed recipes of the highest quality, that are truly unique to Last Straw Distillery. Each recipe was developed from scratch, and in-house by trial, error, and practice. And without the use of outside consultants. Everything is done by hand and with pride. We love what we do and we believe it comes through in every bottle.
